KES has supported LSU’s College of Engineering’s Capstone program every year since it’s formation in last 2006.   This year Linda Cross, EI covered the first three days and our company president, Krista Kemper, covered the last two days as members of the Industry Review Panel.  This panel is a group of volunteers who work in a variety of engineering industries and roles who provide feedback on each project’s merits in terms of presentation, clarity, technical feasibility, safety, project management, and professionalism.

The program is designed to give students their first exposure to the full engineering process, to include how to seek additional resources, research, apply their classroom lessons, and meet the goal of “predict – design – perform.”  First semester is the project analysis and design.  Second semester is where they build and test their project as well as conduct any redesign needed.

Bart Kemper, PE is the alumnus advisor to the Shell Eco Marathon project, where the team will design and build a vehicle optimized for driver-only vehicle achieving maximum gas mileage.  This year’s team has a stated goal of exceeding 1000 miles per gallon.
