Case Study: Logical Decisions, Inc.

Developing a novel K12 “hard stop” anti-terrorist attack gate

KES has worked with Logical Decisions, Incorporate (LDI) for over a decade.  LDI are international manufacturers of security gates and barriers located in Baton Rouge, La.

They had a client that required a very specific kind of barrier.  It had to handle a at least 1.2 million foot-pounds of kinetic energy (50,000 lbs at 50 mph) with zero vehicle penetration and still be functional.  Additionally, it was to be blast resistant. KES and LDI worked together to go through multiple design iterations.  Once the initial work showed the project was feasible, we found ways to reduce weight, reduce costs, and increase performance along the specified parameters.

The system was built per the drawings developed by KES and tested at the Texas Transportation Institute.  The barrier met and exceeded the performance criteria.
